Serbian band Balkanika will represent their home in Eurovision next month. The band’s founder, Sanja Ilić, built a team of incredibly talented artists who have as impressive musical background as Sanja does. Their song “Nova deca” or “New Generation” demonstrates the great skill of the whole ensemble.
Sanja Ilić started his musical career at the age of twelve when he performed on television in 1963. He was then a keyboardist for a band called San in the early seventies. In 1982, Sanja composed Aska’s song, “Halo, Halo” for their ESC performance. A decade later, Balkanika was born and it currently has eleven members. The team includes several incredibly talented artists who studied music, spent their whole lives playing it or both. But all members are extremely passionate about their craft, and that comes through in their work.
“Plava Ptica” or “Blue Bird” is one of the group’s most popular songs. They performed live in Kalemegdan in Serbia and the singer’s delivery of the song helped translate its tragically beautiful lyrics.
